What is Early Working Retirement?

What is Early Working Retirement?

It started when I realized that if I retired at 65, I'd be broke long before I was dead.
Since I am already living hand to mouth like I will be as a retired person, I decided
to declare my Early Working Retirement early and start enjoying life more
!

Think about it...

I'm in my 40's and its obvious that I'm not going to have the kind of savings to retire at 65.  The American Dream has shifted from moving somewhere warm at 65 to just worrying about surviving.  I know I'm not saving enough to retire at 65, but I don't care.  Living hand to mouth is something I've gotten used to, so now that I've declared my Early Working Retirement, I've come to enjoy every moment... I'm just working to pay the bills!  When I'm not teaching, I'm working on videography, photography and athletic endeavors, traveling with family and staying focused on the truly great parts of life and living!

Enjoy every moment!

The key is to figure out what you really like to do, and then get paid for it!  I love to teach.  I've been teaching for 9 years now and going to work feels more like going to school which I never tire of.   I get to enjoy every minute of every day because I'm getting paid for what I love to do!

I was inspired by busy, happy retirees!

I've had the pleasure to teach many people how to use their computers over the years, but what most impressed me is a specific type of retired person.  What they all have in common is that they still find ways to keep busy and get paid doing it!  They are at a point in their life where they know what they like about their career, and while they've retired from their full-time jobs, they haven't stopped working.  What they've done is shed the parts of the job they didn't like, and focused on the things they are passionate about.  That's what I've done!  I found a job I love, at a company I respect, and I work to pay the bills. I live the rest of my life like I'm on vacation!

Life is really a working vacation!

I consider every minute worth cherishing, but especially when I'm not working.  The way I figure it, I get 126 days of vacation each year, plus sick days.  And that doesn't count the mornings and evenings I have free before and after work.

Do what you love, and never work a day!

Declare your Early Working Retirement and never work another day!
